ORLEANS COUNTY TOWN HALL MEETINGS

Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) is holding a series of four town hall meetings for his Orleans County constituents this Saturday, October 4. Hawley invites his constituents to come out and ask questions about any state of local issue that concerns them. Hawley frequently holds town halls across his district to make sure that the people his represents have as much access to him as possible and to give them the opportunity to provide their input of the direction of the area.

“One of my responsibilities as an elected official is to keep my constituents informed on state and local issues that affect them. These town halls are one way to do that. I invite every one of my constituents to come out and discuss whatever is on their minds. I am here to listen and work with them to make Western New York a great place to live and work,” said Hawley.

SEVENTH ANNUAL PATRIOT TRIP

Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia) today announced that the seventh annual Patriot Trip will depart from the Batavia Downs parking lot on September 18, at 7 a.m. and return on September 21. The Patriot Trip is an annual event sponsored by Hawley for veterans to visit Washington D.C. and the war memorials in the city. It is one way that Hawley, the ranking member of the Assembly Veterans Affairs Committee, shows his appreciation for Western New York’s veterans.

“As a man that comes from a military family and a former member of the National Guard and Army Reserves, I will always be looking out for veterans. Their example of public service is one I do my best to emulate as a public official,” said Hawley. “The Patriot Trip is a token of my appreciation for the men and women who have served our country with courage and honor. I look forward to this year’s trip.”

HAWLEY: PLIGHT OF ALBION GUN SHOP UNDERSCORES ABSURDITY OF SAFE ACT

A statement from Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,C,I-Batavia)

“Any bill that is rushed through the legislature in the middle of the night without enough time to be read or debated is going to have serious problems, and that’s what we are seeing now. The SAFE is so poorly written that nobody knows exactly what constitutes a so called “assault weapon” under the law. The Albion Gun Shop is the latest victim of this unconstitutional infringement on law-abiding citizen. What makes this particular case absurd is that the owner of the shop was told his weapons were in compliance with the SAFE Act, but now he is told the opposite, with serious legal consequences.

“I voted against the SAFE Act because of situations exactly like this—the Albion Gun Shop did everything they could to be in compliance with the law, but still ran afoul of it with serious consequences to their business. I stand with the Albion Gun Shop and continue to push for the SAFE Act to be repealed.”
